Charlotte Breadmore, Lic.Ac. MBAcC.
Motivated by my own positive experience with Five Element acupuncture, and having always sought out complimentary therapies to support my health, I retrained as a practitioner in 2021. During my three year professional licentiate at The Acupuncture Academy (TAA) I gained valuable experience and insight to the word of Chinese medicine. During my clinical year, I trained under the supervision of a highly accredited practitioner here in London, deepening my understanding of Five Element theory and practice.
Since starting my practice in New Cross, Crystal Palace, and central London, I continue to be amazed at how impactful acupuncture can be as we navigate an increasingly stressful world. Dedicated to providing individualised care to my patients, I often include adjunctive techniques such as moxibustion, gua-sha, and cupping where necessary.
I’m a fully accredited and insured member of the British Acupuncture Council (BAcC), the leading self-regulatory body for acupuncture in the UK. As a member, I am obligated to adhere to the Council's rigorous Standards of Practice and Codes of Ethics.

How does it work?
Acupuncture restores balance and enhances the body's natural healing mechanisms by inserting fine needles at specific points along meridians, or energy channels. This process regulates Qi flow, stimulating nerves, muscles, and connective tissues to release neurotransmitters and hormones, thereby reducing pain, inflammation, and inducing relaxation. It also influences physiological processes like blood circulation, immune function, and hormonal balance. Though ongoing research is unraveling its precise mechanisms, acupuncture's holistic approach addresses symptoms and underlying imbalances, promoting overall wellness.
How does it feel?
Owing to the flexibility and fine gauge of the needles (similar to two human hairs), the sensation of needling is usually minimal. Patients may feel a dull ache at the acupuncture point, which swiftly dissipates and is generally not discomforting. Many find acupuncture relaxing and feel very calm during and after a treatment; you may also feel a little tired or sleepy so if possible, try to arrange a relatively restful and quiet day, especially for your first treatment.
Is it safe?
Acupuncture is one of the safest medical treatments currently on offer in the UK, in fact in 2001 a number of studies concluded that the risk of serious adverse reaction to acupuncture is less than 1 in 10,000. Any minor side effects that do occur, such as dizziness or bruising around needle points, are infrequent, mild and self-correcting.
